India won the toss and chose to bowl first in the opening T20I against Ireland, marking Shreyas Iyer’s debut as captain in the format.

India have never lost to Ireland in T20Is, and the team aims to continue that record in the series opener.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who earned his maiden call‑up after a stellar IPL season, did not make his debut today. Batting coach Sitanshu Kotak had earlier hinted that Sooryavanshi would need to wait for his opportunity. Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson will open the innings for India.

Squads:

India Squad: Sanju Samson(w), Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer(c), Tilak Varma, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Suryansh Shedge, Harshit Rana, Prasidh Krishna, Arshdeep Singh, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Prince Yadav

Ireland Squad: Tim Tector, Ross Adair, Harry Tector, Lorcan Tucker(w/c), Gareth Delany, Stephen Doheny, George Dockrell, Benjamin Calitz, Matthew Humphreys, Reuben Wilson, Gavin Hoey, Jai Moondra, Liam McCarthy, Matthew Hollard
