Ex-Manager of MARKFED Convicted In Bribery Case

Bhubaneswar:  The Court of 3rd Addl. Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar today convicted Naba Kishore Pattnaik, Ex-Manager Input (Retired), office of MD, MARKFED, Odisha, Bhubaneswar in a bribery case and sentenced him to 3 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI).

Odisha Vigilance charge sheeted Naba Kishore Pattnaik, Ex-Manager Input (Retired), office of MD, MARKFED, Odisha, Bhubaneswar in Bhubaneswar Vigilance P.S. Case No.64 dtd.09.12.2003 U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d)/7 Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 for demand and acceptance of illegal gratification (bribe) Rs.10,000 from the complainant for not entangling him in the departmental enquiry initiated against the Godown Manager for receipt of 140 bags of adulterated IFCO Urea.

 The Hon’ble Court of 3rd Addl. Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar today convicted Pattnaik and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 2 years and to pay fine of Rs.10,000/- (Rupees Ten Thousand), and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 6 months for the offence U/s 7 Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

The Hon’ble Court further sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 years and to pay fine of Rs.10,000, and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 6 months for the offence U/s 13(2) PC Act. Both the sentences are to run concurrently, the court ruled.

Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for stoppage of pension of Sri Pattnaik following his conviction.

 

Sumant Kumar Mohapatra, Ex-Inspector, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar Division had investigated the case and Kamadev Tripathy, Spl. P.P, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar conducted the case on behalf of the prosecution.
