Bhawanipatna: In a tragic incident, a farmer was killed after an elephant crushed him with its trunk at his thresh yard at Pujugada village under Narla forest range here in Kalahandi district late on Friday night.
Three others including a child were critically injured in attack by the giant animal.
A wild tusker sneaked into human habitation in search of food. The animal was eating paddy crops at the thresh yard where entire family of Ghageswar Gouda had slept to guard their crops.
The unfortunate incident took place when Ghageswar and his family members including a child tried to drive the animal away from the thresh yard. The jumbo lifted the farmer up with its trunk and crushed on the ground. He died on the spot. The animal also attacked other family members leaving them seriously injured.
Those who were critically injured are Raajendra Gouda, Chandan Gouda and Bibhu Gouda. All of them have been admitted to Bhawanipatna hospital. Their condition is stated to be critical.
Bibhu Gouda is only 6-year-old.
