In a tragic incident amid rising burglary cases in Jajpur district, a 77-year-old woman was killed, and her daughter sustained critical injuries during a robbery at their home in Tigiria village late Friday night.

The victims, Kaushalya Pati and Mamata Pati, were attacked by two bike-riding miscreants who barged into their house while they were sleeping. The duo woke up to resist the intruders, who then violently assaulted them with sharp objects.

Kaushalya succumbed to fatal head injuries on the spot, while Mamata, an ASHA worker, was rushed to Badachana hospital for treatment. The police detained two suspects, identified as Manguli and Balia Das, and launched an investigation into the crime, aiming to curb the alarming surge in theft cases in the district.
