The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has dealt a significant blow to an alleged cross-border gold smuggling network operating along the Indo-Bangladesh border, seizing more than 8.3 kilograms of foreign-origin gold and arresting four suspected smugglers.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, DRI officials launched a targeted operation to intercept smuggled gold being transported into India through clandestine border routes. During the operation, officials recovered over 8.3 kg of gold believed to have originated outside the country.
The seized gold, valued at several crores in the domestic market, was allegedly being smuggled through organized channels to evade customs duties and regulatory scrutiny. Four individuals were apprehended in connection with the case and are currently under investigation.
Officials suspect the involvement of a larger smuggling network facilitating the illegal movement of precious metals across international borders. The DRI is examining the source of the gold, the intended recipients, and the financial trail linked to the operation.
The latest seizure highlights the agency’s continued efforts to curb economic offences and dismantle syndicates engaged in cross-border smuggling activities.
Further investigation is underway to identify additional members of the network and uncover possible interstate and international links
