Kataka Malgodown—Odisha’s largest commercial wholesale hub—will remain fully operational tomorrow, October 8, despite the 12-hour Odisha Bandh called by the opposition INDIA bloc.
The decision was officially communicated by the General Secretary of the Chamber of Commerce, assuring that the buying and selling of daily essential commodities will continue without interruption.
Highlighting the critical role Malgodown plays in maintaining the state’s daily food supply chain, business leaders emphasised that public welfare takes precedence during such shutdowns. As the primary wholesale point for food grains, pulses, oil, and other daily staples, any complete closure would severely disrupt supply chains and inconvenience citizens statewide.
Traders at Malgodown have collectively agreed to keep operations active to prevent potential artificial scarcity, price hikes, or panic buying among retail consumers. While political outfits prepare for public demonstrations and road blockades across various districts, the commercial ecosystem in Cuttack’s central market aims to run smoothly to safeguard basic consumer needs.
