Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar has stormed the box office, surpassing the lifetime India run of Baahubali: The Beginning in just 13 days.
The A-rated spy thriller collected Rs 437.25 crore nett in India and Rs 674.50 crore worldwide by the end of its second Wednesday. Moreover, the film’s rapid rise has positioned it as a strong contender to join the coveted Rs 1,000-crore club.
SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali: The Beginning earned Rs 421 crore in India and Rs 650 crore worldwide during its lifetime run. In contrast, Dhurandhar crossed those figures in less than two weeks, signalling a new chapter in Bollywood’s box office history.
The film’s day-wise earnings highlight its momentum: Week 1 brought in Rs 207.25 crore, while the second weekend delivered record-breaking numbers—Friday Rs 32.5 crore, Saturday Rs 53 crore, Sunday Rs 58 crore, Monday Rs 30.5 crore, Tuesday Rs 30.5 crore, and Wednesday Rs 25.5 crore. Consequently, the film has already grossed Rs 675 crore worldwide.
Powered by strong word of mouth, Dhurandhar also recorded the biggest second weekend ever for a Hindi film, surpassing the Hindi version of Pushpa: The Rule. Furthermore, industry experts expect the Ranveer Singh-led film to dethrone Animal, which grossed Rs 915 crore, as the biggest A-rated Indian film.
Currently, the top A-rated Indian films include Animal (Rs 915 crore), Dhurandhar (Rs 675 crore), Salaar: Part 1 (Rs 618 crore), Coolie (Rs 519 crore), and Kabir Singh (Rs 377 crore).
The film follows the journey of an Indian spy infiltrating Rahman Dakait’s Baloch gang in Karachi’s Lyari. It also exposes the nexus between gangs, politicians, and terror outfits aiding cross-border terrorism. Additionally, the sequel is scheduled to release on March 19, promising another wave of excitement.
