A shocking murder linked to sorcery suspicion has shaken Uskapalli village under Kalimela police station in Malkangiri district.
Police detained two suspects after a 51-year-old man was killed in a brutal attack.
According to reports, the victim, Mukka Podiami, faced a violent assault with sharp weapons late Wednesday night. His family lodged a complaint at the local police station, alleging that the killing stemmed from sorcery-related suspicion.
Kalimela police registered a case at the Poteru outpost and immediately reached the crime scene. Mukund Melka, the officer in charge of Kalimela police station, led a team to the site and initiated an investigation. Officers confirmed that they detained two brothers, Adma Podiami and Irma Podiami, for questioning in connection with the murder.
The incident has triggered fear and outrage in the tribal-dominated region, where superstition-driven violence continues to pose a serious challenge. Community members expressed concern over recurring cases of sorcery suspicion leading to attacks and demanded strict action against those responsible.
Police assured that they will pursue the case with urgency. Investigators are examining evidence and interrogating the suspects to establish the motive and sequence of events. Authorities emphasised that they will take strong legal action once the investigation concludes.
