Bhubaneswar: The development of a nation is not possible without development in the field of science and technology, said experts while participating in a webinar on “Science and National Development” organised on the occasion of National Science Day today by Regional Outreach Bureau (ROB) Bhubaneswar under Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India.
Participating in the webinar, Bhupendra Kainthola, DG, PIB Kolkata said that scientific talent is not only limited to cities but also villages. “Efforts should be made to impart the science education to the village students in the language they understand, especially their mother tongue,” Kainthola said.
Akhil Kumar Mishra, ADG, ROB Bhubaneswar said that development of science and technology is the key to development of nation. “Science creates employment, improves agriculture and promotes health and wealth. During the time of crisis, information is disseminated easily only through use of technology,” he said.
Dr. Pramod Panda, Principal Scientist, ICAR-IIWM, talked about how the nation has become self reliant in food productions through the help of science and technology. “When India got independent, people in the western world thought the country might not be able to produce food and people will die, but over the years things have changed only because of the intervention of science and technology,” he added.
Dr. Patitapabana Mohanty, Associate Professor and Officiating Director, SVNIRTAR, Cuttack elaborately talked about science & technological intervention in rehabilitation. “Robotics and Artificial Intelligence have been playing a game changer in rehabilitation therapies. Be it among children and specially-abled persons, the technological intervention has played a boon,” he added.
