Odisha on Friday woke up to a blanket of dense fog, resulting in a significant drop in temperature across the state. Although netizens are experiencing relief from the chilling winter cold, the dense fog has been causing disruption in normal lives.
The regional weather office in Bhubaneswar has issued an advisory predicting dense fog for 13 districts over the coming two days. A yellow warning for 13 districts has been issued for today and tomorrow, cautioning residents of potential disruptions due to reduced visibility.
The thick fog particularly affected six coastal districts, including the state capital Bhubaneswar. Reports from Bhubaneswar confirm that the blanket of fog has led to delays in flight operations at the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA), with passengers advised to check with airlines for updates.
In a contrasting turn of events, weather experts at the IMD’s regional centre have predicted a notable rise in temperatures by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius over the next three days. This forecasted change in weather comes as a surprise amid the current cold spell.
Local authorities urge caution, advising motorists and commuters to be mindful of the foggy conditions and to drive cautiously.
Meanwhile, heat has already grappled Odisha with the mercury reaching an unprecedented 33.2 degrees in Koraput district on Thursday. This marks the highest January temperature recorded in the past 52 years.
While Odisha typically experiences cooler months leading into March, this year, however, residents have already started using fans much earlier than usual. Capital city Bhubaneswar has been noticeably warmer as well, with morning temperatures reported at 19 degrees Celsius. The coastal areas of Odisha are also being impacted due to the elevating temperatures.
