In a tragic incident, a group of heavily armed militants carried out a terror attack in the upper meadows of Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on Tuesday, leaving at least five tourists dead and several others injured.
According to initial reports, the attackers, dressed in military fatigues, opened fire on a group of horse-riding tourists in the scenic Baisaran valley. The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of the banned terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Following the incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, instructing him to take necessary action and conduct an on-ground assessment. Amit Shah is set to leave for Srinagar for an urgent security review meeting, assuring that the perpetrators will face severe consequences.
Security operations have intensified in the region, with additional forces deployed to secure the area. Authorities are investigating the incident and working to confirm the identities of the victims.
