Devotees visiting the sacred Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri will have restricted access tomorrow, April 23, as the temple conducts the revered Banakalagi ritual.
The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has announced that general darshan will be suspended for five hours, from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM, following the conclusion of the second Bhoga Mandap ritual.
The Banakalagi ritual is an important tradition where priests apply fresh paint to the idols of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra, restoring their divine appearance. Since this ceremony takes place behind closed doors, devotees are temporarily barred from darshan.
Temple authorities urge visitors to plan their visit accordingly and respect the sacred customs of the temple. Devotees can resume darshan after 10:00 PM once the rituals conclude.
