Job fraud in Bhubaneswar

In a case of job fraud, Capital Police have arrested Bulu Gouda (40) for allegedly cheating a man out of Rs 14 lakh by promising government jobs for his wife and sister.

The accused was apprehended from the Patrapada area on Tuesday and subsequently produced in court. The complaint was filed on March 8, leading to Case No. 169 being registered, with the arrest made within two days of the investigation.

According to police reports, the victim lodged a complaint stating that he met the accused in 2024. Gouda, leveraging his influence, falsely assured government employment for the complainant’s wife and sister. Trusting these promises, the victim transferred money in instalments. On November 14, 2024, Rs 3 lakh was transferred from the victim’s uncle’s bank account. Additionally, Rs 2 lakh was sent via UPI, and Rs 9 lakh was handed over in cash during meetings in Bapuji Nagar and Master Canteen areas.

In the name of processing the jobs, Gouda also took the original educational certificates of the victim’s wife and sister. After receiving Rs 14 lakh and the documents, the accused failed to deliver any jobs. When confronted, he neither returned the money nor the certificates and instead demanded more funds.

During the investigation, police arrested Gouda from Patrapada on Tuesday. Upon interrogation, he confessed to the crime. A check of his criminal record revealed six prior cases registered against him in various police stations. The Capital Police stated that further investigation is ongoing to uncover more details about the fraud and any other involved parties. They plan to probe deeper into how Gouda operated these job scams.

This incident adds to the growing list of job fraud cases in Bhubaneswar. Police have urged the public to report any suspicious individuals demanding money for government jobs to avoid falling victim to such schemes.
