A fresh cyclonic circulation forming over Gangetic West Bengal and its surroundings around June 25 is expected to significantly intensify rainfall activity across Odisha, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned on Sunday.
According to the IMD’s forecast, this system could give rise to a low-pressure area over the North Bay of Bengal by June 27. While it is unlikely to strengthen into a depression, its influence will likely result in heavy to very heavy rain and squally weather conditions across several districts over the coming days.
Orange and yellow warnings have already been issued for numerous districts from June 22 to 26, with storm-like conditions and wind speeds reaching 30–40 kmph likely to affect coastal and interior regions alike. The worst-hit districts may include Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Gajapati, and Ganjam.
The IMD has also cautioned against venturing out to sea between June 24 and 25 as wind speeds may touch 55 kmph, leading to rough to very rough sea conditions. Fishermen have been advised to return to shore and stay alert for further updates.
As the monsoon gains momentum, Odisha’s residents are urged to brace for adverse weather, take safety precautions, and stay tuned to official updates.
