India’s Harjinder Kaur produced a sensational performance to win the silver medal in women’s 69 kg weightlifting at the Commonwealth Games 2026, setting new Games records in both the snatch and clean & jerk categories.
The 29‑year‑old from Nabha, Punjab, lifted a combined 227 kg (101 kg snatch + 126 kg clean & jerk) — her personal best — to earn India its seventh weightlifting medal of the Games.
Harjinder was flawless in the snatch, clearing 96 kg, 99 kg, and 101 kg — the last two setting Games records. She continued her record‑breaking spree in the clean & jerk, lifting 120 kg, 123 kg, and 126 kg to finish with a total of 227 kg.
Canada’s Charlotte Simoneau, 20, claimed gold with a dominant 240 kg (108 kg + 132 kg), breaking all Games records and finishing 13 kg ahead of Harjinder.
Harjinder’s silver capped India’s strong campaign in weightlifting, which now stands at one gold, five silver, and one bronze, reaffirming the nation’s depth and consistency in the sport.
Earlier, debutant Nirupama Devi endured a tough outing in the women’s 63 kg event, failing to register a total after missing all three clean & jerk attempts.
With Harjinder’s heroics, India’s weightlifting contingent continues to shine brightly on the Commonwealth stage.
