The sacred Banakalagi Niti ritual will be solemnly observed at Srimandir today, marking a divine tradition of renewal and devotion for Lord Jagannath’s devotees.
According to temple administration sources, following the completion of the second bhog at the Bhog Mandap, public darshan will be temporarily suspended from 6:00 PM until 11:00 PM to facilitate the confidential conduct of the ritual procedures.
This traditional ritual involves the ritualistic touch-up of the facial features of the deities—Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra—using natural colours and pastes, symbolising renewal and devotion.
Devotees and tourists are advised to plan their temple visit accordingly and honour the sanctity and discipline of the Banakalagi ceremony. The ritual holds deep spiritual significance and is one of the many age-old traditions that make the Puri Jagannath Temple a centre of vibrant religious heritage.
Temple officials have ensured that all arrangements will be made for the smooth execution of the Banakalagi Niti, with necessary restrictions in place for the convenience and safety of pilgrims.
