Cuttack is on the verge of a major infrastructure upgrade, with a Rs 640 crore elevated corridor project set to connect OMP Square to Kandarpur.

The project, aimed at easing severe traffic congestion, has completed its Detailed Project Report (DPR) and is awaiting final approval from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Cuttack MP Bhartruhari Mahtab confirmed.

The corridor will run along sections of National Highway 55 and include service roads, double-lane paved shoulders, elevated flyovers, and grade separators to streamline vehicular movement. Once approved, construction is expected to begin within the next three months.

Easing Traffic Bottlenecks
Designed to decongest one of Cuttack’s busiest stretches, the corridor will significantly cut down travel time and reduce accident risks, offering safer and faster transit for both commuters and heavy transport vehicles.

Project Announcement and Funding
The elevated corridor was first announced by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari during his visit to Odisha on April 17, 2025, as part of efforts to strengthen key transport links in the state. Mahtab, in his letter to the ministry, underscored the urgency of DPR clearance, citing the worsening traffic scenario and public demand.

Spanning 13 kilometres and planned in multiple phases, the project will be funded through central allocations under the National Highway Development Budget 2024–25. Coordination between the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and state agencies is already in progress, with groundwork likely to start by the end of 2025 once approvals are secured.
