In a major breakthrough, police in Cuttack have arrested four individuals allegedly involved in a contract killing plot targeting a local businessman.
The arrests were made by Markat Nagar Police on Tuesday following a detailed investigation into a related violent attack.
Authorities also seized a car, a motorcycle, and weapons believed to be intended for use in the planned crime.
₹1.5 Lakh Contract Deal and Advance Payment Revealed
According to police officials, the accused had entered into a contract worth ₹1.5 lakh to eliminate a businessman based in the Sector-6 area. An advance payment of ₹50,000 had already been made to the hired assailants before the plan could be executed.
The conspiracy came to light during the investigation of a separate attack involving an elderly resident, which was later linked to the same criminal network.
Key Accused Identified, Mastermind Behind Plot Exposed
Police have identified the main accused as Chandan Bhol, who allegedly orchestrated the plot due to a business rivalry. Others arrested include Sishir Jena, Rajesh Nayak, and Rakesh Behera.
Interestingly, one of the accused reportedly posed as a social worker and operated a de-addiction centre in Bhubaneswar, raising concerns about misuse of social identities for criminal activities.
Investigation Triggered by Violent Attack in Sector-6
The case unfolded after an elderly man was attacked by unidentified assailants in Sector-6 under Markat Nagar police jurisdiction. Despite the victim being unable to identify the attackers, police intensified the probe and uncovered the larger conspiracy.
Law enforcement officials stated that the attack was part of a premeditated plan linked to the intended murder.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Ananya Awasthi confirmed that the investigation revealed a well-planned attempt driven by commercial disputes.
The accused allegedly hired contract killers to carry out a targeted and potentially fatal assault on a business competitor.

All four accused have been presented before the court, and further investigation is ongoing to uncover additional links and possible accomplices.
