Renowned Indian chef Vikas Khanna has been named among the 100 most influential people in the world by TIME Magazine, marking a significant global recognition of his contribution to culinary arts and cultural storytelling.

The prestigious list also features prominent global figures such as Ranbir Kapoor, Sundar Pichai, Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and Benjamin Netanyahu.

Turning ‘Curry Boy’ into a Badge of Honour

Reflecting on the recognition, Vikas Khanna shared an emotional perspective on the term “curry boy,” which has historically been used as a derogatory label in some parts of the world.

He said that what was once used as a slur has now become a symbol of pride and identity. Embracing his roots, he highlighted how Indian food and culture have gained global respect and admiration over the years.

A Personal and Emotional Milestone

Khanna revealed that he learned about the honour on March 23, which coincides with the birthday of his late sister. He described the moment as deeply emotional and meaningful, calling it “a very big moment for India.”

His journey from humble beginnings to international acclaim reflects resilience, cultural pride, and dedication to his craft.

Celebrating Indian Culture on the Global Stage

Through his restaurants, films, and television appearances, Vikas Khanna has consistently showcased Indian traditions to a global audience.

He currently runs the acclaimed restaurant Bungalow in New York and previously led the Michelin-starred restaurant Junoon. His work has been praised for blending storytelling with culinary excellence.

Beyond Food: Contributions to Entertainment

Apart from his culinary achievements, Khanna has also made a mark in entertainment:

  • Judge on MasterChef India
  • Director of the film The Last Colour starring Neena Gupta
  • Upcoming project Imaginary Rain featuring Shabana Azmi and Prateek Babbar

His multidisciplinary work continues to expand his global influence.

The inclusion of Vikas Khanna in the TIME 100 list is more than an individual achievement—it represents the growing global recognition of Indian culture. By reclaiming and redefining the term “curry boy,” Khanna has turned a past insult into a powerful symbol of pride and identity.
