Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has lodged a formal complaint with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), alleging that the team was “insulted and undermined” during their IPL 2026 match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
The incident reportedly occurred during their April 5 clash at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Controversy Over DJ Song and Remarks
According to reports, CSK objected to:
- A viral song referencing South Indian stereotypes played during the match
- The timing and context of the track, which the franchise found inappropriate
- Alleged remarks made by the stadium DJ targeting CSK players after dismissals
The franchise stated that such actions crossed the line from crowd engagement to disrespect.
BCCI Takes Cognisance of Complaint
A top official confirmed that the Board of Control for Cricket in India has:
- Received the complaint
- Begun reviewing the matter
The governing council is expected to examine whether any code of conduct or match-day protocol was violated.
CSK Management Reacts
CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan confirmed the development, stating:
- DJs are meant to support the home team, not target opponents
- Certain comments directed at CSK players were unacceptable
- A formal request has been made to investigate the incident
He also noted that similar issues had not occurred recently, making this case particularly concerning.
Fair Play and Match Conduct Under Spotlight
CSK officials emphasized that:
- Match-day entertainment should not undermine opposing teams
- Respect between franchises is essential for the spirit of the Indian Premier League
The controversy has once again raised questions about stadium conduct and professionalism during high-profile matches.
Match Context and Team Performance
- CSK lost the match against RCB in Bengaluru
- The team had a slow start to the season but later bounced back with consecutive wins
- RCB currently sits at the top of the IPL 2026 points table
CSK will next face Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 18.
