A conjoined baby boy born with a rare medical condition at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Brahmapur passed away on Sunday.
The infant was delivered on Oct 11 to a woman hailing from Tidipadar village in Odisha’s Kandhamala district. The case had quickly drawn widespread attention after medical tests confirmed the extraordinarily rare occurrence of a baby born with two heads attached to a single torso.
Immediately following his delivery, the newborn was admitted to the hospital’s Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU). A specialised team of doctors provided round-the-clock medical care and closely monitored his vital parameters.
Despite intensive efforts by pediatric specialists, the baby’s fragile medical condition deteriorated, and hospital sources confirmed his passing on Sunday morning. Medical experts had earlier scheduled an examination by senior professors from the pediatric surgery department to evaluate potential advanced interventions.
The demise has cast a shadow of grief over the family and brought a tragic conclusion to a medical case that had captured significant public interest and medical concern across the state. Further medical reports regarding the case are awaited.
