In a historic development for the Indian Premier League (IPL), the mini auction for the 2027 season is set to make its debut in Goa on Dec 16.
The event marks the return of the IPL player market to domestic soil following three consecutive editions staged in West Asia.
While Dec 14 was initially considered, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) conveyed the final date of Dec 16 to all ten franchises via WhatsApp, with the official team briefing scheduled for Dec 15.
The communication was issued to finalise delegate numbers and expedite bookings at the ITC Grand Hotel in Goa.
The scheduled date coincides with India’s second ODI against Sri Lanka at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Meanwhile, the series opener on Dec 13, originally slotted for New Delhi, faces relocation amid ongoing stadium renovation work.
All ten IPL franchises are required to submit their lists of retained and released players by mid-November. Following this submission, the BCCI will assemble the official pool of players, enabling teams to refine strategies and fill crucial squad gaps ahead of the 2027 campaign.
