Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi actively participated in the state-level World Environment Day celebrations at OUAT, Bhubaneswar.

During the event, he announced several key environmental initiatives aimed at sustainable development and ecological preservation.

Among the notable decisions, the Odisha government pledged to plant 7.5 crore trees this year, significantly expanding the state’s green cover. The CM highlighted that 560 square kilometres of forest area have been added in Odisha, ranking fourth among all states in forest growth.

Additionally, he stressed the need to eliminate single-use plastics, implementing stringent measures and encouraging long-term alternatives. The state is also committed to air pollution control through the State Clean Air Programme, focusing on improving air quality in densely populated urban regions.

Aiming to strengthen biodiversity and wildlife conservation, the government has allocated Rs 50 crore under the Ama Similipal initiative to protect Similipal National Park, now officially recognised as India’s 107th National Park. The program seeks to ensure the preservation of flora and fauna while promoting sustainable environmental practices.

The Chief Minister urged citizens to actively participate in the green movement by embracing eco-friendly habits and supporting nature conservation. He honoured 185 Prakriti Mitra and 211 Prakriti Bandhu awardees, along with institutions that demonstrated exemplary environmental commitment.

The event also featured a special Eco-Model Exhibition focusing on “Ending Plastic Pollution,” with participation from various organisations, educational institutions, and environmental activists.
