Violence erupted in the national capital on Saturday as protesters associated with the proposed Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) agitation allegedly toppled barricades and pelted stones at security personnel near Imtiaz Ali Marg and Akashwani Bhawan.
The agitation was organised to protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Around noon, a group of 25 to 30 protesters breached security barricades and attacked personnel on duty, injuring two police officers. Authorities quickly intervened, detaining several individuals involved in the stone-pelting.
To prevent demonstrators from gathering at Jantar Mantar, where strict prohibitory orders were enforced, police and paramilitary forces set up security cordons across the New Delhi district.
Despite authorities denying permission for the rally, protesters attempted to regroup at multiple locations, including Connaught Place.
