Khandagiri Police have arrested a 28-year-old repeat offender for breaking into a local snack store on APICOL Road in Baramunda and stealing commercial goods.

The accused has been identified as Bibhuna Rout, a native of Jagatsinghpur currently residing in the Aiginia area under Bharatpur police limits.

The incident occurred on the night of Oct 8, 2026, when complainant Ashwani Kumar Sahu discovered that the lock of his shop had been broken. Stolen items included cigarettes, gutkha, biscuit packets, snacks, and other grocery merchandise.

Following a formal complaint, Khandagiri Police registered a case under Sections 331(4) and 305(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and initiated an investigation. Based on reliable intelligence, a police team raided a spot near Dumduma junction, apprehending Rout and seizing a cutter machine used in the break-in, a scooter, and the stolen inventory.

During interrogation, Rout confessed to the crime. Police revealed that the accused has prior criminal involvement in two separate cases at Khandagiri Police Station. He was subsequently produced in court, and further investigation is underway.
