Bhadrak: At least 23 persons were injured after a passenger bus collided head-on with an ambulance near Raimani Chowk near Barpada on Bhadrak-Agarpada road on Thursday afternoon.
The passenger bus named ‘Krishna’ was moving at a high speed with 40 passengers on board collided head-on with a 102 ambulance coming from the opposite direction and overturned on the side of the road, injuring 23 passengers.
Among the injured, 18 people who were seriously injured have been admitted to the Bhadrak district headquarters hospital, while others were provided first-aid at the Barpada primary health centre and later discharged.
After the collision, both the bus and the ambulance overturned on the side of the road. Local people rescued the injured from the mangled vehicles by breaking the window glass panel of the vehicle. Pregnant women, children and many college students are among the injured.
After hearing the news, Bhadrak MLA Sanjib Kumar Mallick reached the PHC and took stock of the treatment of the injured. The MLA said that some of the critically injured persons were being sent to Cuttack SCBMCH.
If sources are to be believed, some the injured passengers have revealed that the bus driver lost control over the vehicle due to speeding and hit the emergency vehicle.
