Bhadrak: Tension prevailed at Nandapur Bazaar in Achak Panchayat under Tihidi Block of Bhadrak District after a college girl student was run over by a speeding car on Monday morning.
According to sources, the accident took place at around 11 pm when the victim, identified as Prabhashini Nayak, a Plus II student of Talapada Women’s College, was coming home from the college.
After hitting the girl student, the speeding car kept dragging her for some distance. She was then rescued and rushed to Tihidi Hospital, where she was pronounced dead by the doctor. On the other hand, local people caught the car driver and handed him over to the police.
Later, the people blocked the road by burning tires demanding compensation to the family of the deceased student. But, Tidhi police managed to handle the agitation peacefully and the locals lifted the road blockade.
