The tranquility of the Kumbiguda village riverbank in Koraput district was shattered on October 30 when locals discovered the unidentified body of an elderly woman trapped among debris.
The grim discovery has left the local community gripped by fear and shock as authorities scramble to unravel her identity.
According to reports, heavy and incessant rainfall triggered by Cyclone Arnab over the past three days has wreaked havoc across the region, overflowing rivers and waterlogging streets. Haru Hantal, a resident of nearby Digugabada village, first spotted the body stuck among uprooted trees and floating debris brought down by the swollen river. He immediately alerted fellow villagers, but despite gathering at the site, no one from the surrounding areas was able to recognise or identify the deceased woman.
Local authorities were swiftly notified of the unsettling incident. Tahasildar Debendra Bahadur Singh Dharua stated that immediate steps are being taken to recover the body safely and facilitate a formal identification process. Acting on the information provided by the administration, local police arrived at the scene to retrieve the remains and launch a thorough investigation to determine both her identity and the exact cause of death.
