A 14-year-old girl lost her life after allegedly consuming agricultural pesticide at her residence in Dandakhal village, under the Ramagiri panchayat of Boipariguda block in Koraput district.
The deceased has been identified as Padmini Golari, daughter of Budru Golari.
According to reports, Padmini was studying in Class 7 and residing at the Mundaguda Sevasrama. However, after returning home for the summer vacation, she refused to return to the hostel. Despite repeated reminders and persuasion from her parents to resume her studies, she showed no interest in going back and chose to stay at home.
On Thursday afternoon, for reasons yet to be ascertained, Padmini consumed a pesticide that her father had brought for application on eucalyptus (nilgiri) trees. Around 5:00 PM, she began experiencing severe abdominal pain and behavioural changes. When anxious family members questioned her, she confessed to having ingested the poison.
The family immediately rushed her in an auto-rickshaw to the Ramagiri Primary Health Centre. After initial first aid, her condition deteriorated rapidly, prompting medical staff to transfer her to the Boipariguda Community Health Centre. Despite ongoing medical intervention, she succumbed to the poisoning at around 7:30 PM.
Upon receiving information, Boipariguda police reached the hospital, seized the body, and initiated an investigation. Following an autopsy conducted today, the body was handed over to the grieving family members. The untimely demise of the young girl has cast a pall of gloom over the entire locality.
