In a major legal setback for Mokama MLA Anant Kumar Singh, the Supreme Court of India on Friday, October 30, 2026, cancelled the bail granted to him in connection with the murder of regional strongman Dularchand Yadav.

A division bench comprising Justices M.M. Sundresh and P.V. Varale directed the controversial politician to surrender before law enforcement authorities on or before December 1, 2026. The apex court further instructed the Bihar Police and investigating agencies to complete the ongoing probe into the murder within four months.

Patna High Court Order Overturned

Setting aside the Patna High Court’s March 19, 2026 order that had allowed Singh to walk out on bail, the Supreme Court observed that the High Court committed a grave error. The bench noted that the lower court failed to adequately weigh the gravity of the offense, the nature of the allegations, and Singh’s extensive history of criminal antecedents. The appeal before the top court was filed by Dularchand Yadav’s family members, who challenged the High Court’s decision to grant relief.

The case traces back to October 30, 2025, when Dularchand Yadav was killed during a violent election campaign clash in Mokama Tal. According to the First Information Report (FIR) registered at the Ghoswari police station, Singh and his associates allegedly intercepted Yadav’s vehicle, dragged him out, shot him in the leg, physically assaulted him, and ran over him with an SUV. Singh was arrested on November 1, 2025, before securing bail earlier this year.

Political Isolation and State Crackdown

The Supreme Court’s order comes amid a sharp decline in Singh’s political standing. The Janata Dal (United) recently expelled Singh and his wife, former MLA Neelam Devi, for six years citing gross anti-party activities. Singh had openly revolted against the party during the Legislative Council elections by campaigning against official JD(U) nominees and issuing public attacks against state leadership.

Following his expulsion, the Bihar government initiated administrative measures against his family, revoking Neelam Devi’s Minister of State rank, stripping her of committee appointments, and issuing notices to vacate their official state bungalow in Patna.
