Police arrested a man in Deogarh district for raping his niece inside his home in the Barkote police limits.
Ajit Munda, 23, allegedly raped his 18-year-old niece while she slept with her sisters in his house late at night. Around midnight, he woke her up and assaulted her. He then threatened to kill her if she revealed the incident and abused her verbally.
The victim informed her mother about the assault. Fearing social stigma, her mother advised her to remain silent. However, Ajit began spreading the incident publicly and defaming the girl. Unable to bear the humiliation, the victim lodged a written complaint at Barkote Police Station on April 14.
Based on the complaint, Barkote police registered a case against Ajit under multiple sections of the law. Officers arrested him on Thursday and produced him in court. The court rejected his bail plea, and police sent him to judicial custody.
