The government of Odisha has announced plans to construct a T-shaped bridge and upgrade a key road corridor in Bhubaneswar.
The project aims to improve traffic flow and enhance connectivity between the busy Jaydev Vihar and CRP Square.
This initiative is part of a broader strategy to modernise urban infrastructure and address increasing traffic congestion in the state capital.
New Parallel Road to Improve Connectivity
The stretch connecting Jaydev Vihar to CRP Square via Ekamra Kanan Botanical Gardens is undergoing significant transformation. A new parallel road passing through Salia Sahi will be integrated with the existing flyover network.
According to Prithiviraj Harichandan, the project is designed to streamline traffic movement and reduce travel time in one of the city’s busiest corridors.
The construction of the parallel road is expected to be completed by the end of April, with the route likely to become operational by May 15.
Roundabout Planned to Regulate Traffic Flow
To further ease congestion, authorities are developing a roundabout at the junction where the 900-metre stretch connects. Road widening is currently underway on both sides to support smoother vehicle movement.
As part of the infrastructure upgrade, existing obstacles such as electric poles have been removed, and an Ama Bus stand along the route has been relocated to facilitate construction.
Officials believe the roundabout will significantly improve traffic regulation and reduce bottlenecks in the area.
Future Plans Include T-Bridge and Expanded Road Network
Looking ahead, the project includes plans for a T-shaped flyover to strengthen connectivity across key parts of the city. Additionally, a new road linking Nandankanan Zoological Park to KIIT via Raghunathpur Jali is also under consideration.
The minister stated that while the T-bridge is part of future expansion, the immediate focus is on making the current road operational through a rotary system by mid-May.
Focus on Sustainable Urban Mobility
This infrastructure initiative reflects the government’s commitment to improving urban mobility, reducing congestion, and supporting the city’s rapid growth. Once completed, the project is expected to benefit daily commuters, residents, and businesses across Bhubaneswar.
