Bhubaneswar cyber fraud arrest

The Cyber Crime and Economic Offences Police Station of Bhubaneswar UPD has arrested two key operatives from West Bengal in connection with a major share market investment fraud amounting to over Rs 81 lakh.

The case began with a complaint from Niranjan Boitai of IRC Village, Nayapalli. Fraudsters posing as stock market experts added him to a WhatsApp group and convinced him to download the fake “Maverick Cap” app, promising high returns. He deposited Rs 81,30,082 in multiple installments before the app was blocked and the fraudsters stopped contacting him.

Cyber police found that Rs 18 lakh of the fraud money was transferred to a Bandhan Bank account linked to Bimal Kalindi’s “World Net Computech” in Purulia, West Bengal. Further investigation revealed that Kalindi, Partha Halder and alleged mastermind Sanjay Rana ran a commission-based cyber fraud network linked to cases across India. Another accused, Akash Kaushik, was earlier arrested in Madhya Pradesh.

A special cyber team raided the Bandwan police area in West Bengal and arrested two key suspects, Bimal Kalindi (37) and Partha Halder (39), both residents of Bandwan in Purulia district.

After their arrest, police secured a 48-hour transit remand from a Purulia court. Both accused were brought to Bhubaneswar on September 14, 2026, and produced in court. Police seized two mobile phones and case-related documents, while the investigation continues to trace other members of the syndicate.
