Independence Day 2025: Odisha CM Mohan Majhi hoists flag in Bhubaneswar

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi today hoisted the national flag at Gandhi Marg in Bhubaneswar, delivering a significant Independence Day speech that outlined his government’s key priorities and achievements for the state.


Addressing the people of Odisha, the Chief Minister announced a series of major initiatives and highlighted progress in governance, economic development, and social welfare.

Key Announcements and Highlights:

  • Employment: Majhi declared that the government is seeking approval to fill an additional 22,896 vacant seats, aiming to surpass its initial target of 65,000 government posts by filling nearly 85,000 positions.
  • Defense & Youth: The state has launched the Agniveer Prasikhyana Yojana, a scheme designed to train students for the Agniveer roles in the armed forces.
  • Industrial Revolution: In a major boost to the state’s technology sector, the Chief Minister announced that the central government has approved the establishment of two semiconductor manufacturing units in Odisha. These projects are expected to revolutionize the electronics and IT sectors, positioning the state as a key player in India’s semiconductor mission.
  • Pharmaceutical Sector: A “Pharma Conclave” will be organized to attract national and international investment, with the goal of creating over 2.5 lakh jobs in the pharmaceutical industry, which has been in a poor state.
  • Women’s Empowerment: The Subhadra Yojana continues to be a success, with over 1 crore women benefiting from the scheme. The third installment of the program was recently disbursed, and the Chief Minister also mentioned the creation of around 17 lakh “Lakhpati Didis.”
  • Law and Order: A firm stand was taken against criminal elements, with Majhi promising a strict crackdown on drug mafias and other criminal activities.
  • Drug-Free Campuses: In a move to protect the state’s youth, all educational institutions, from schools to universities, will be declared drug-free. The government is actively working on implementing measures to achieve this goal.
  • Education and Health: The government highlighted its focus on educational and health progress through schemes such as PM USHA, NIPUN Odisha, and PM SHRI. It also announced an 11.25% reservation for EWS and OBC students in higher education institutions.

The Chief Minister concluded his address by reaffirming his government’s commitment to the development and welfare of the people of Odisha.
