Bhubaneswar: In a significant political development in Odisha ahead of the upcoming elections, Bhrugu Baxipatra, former Vice-president of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Odisha, resigned from the saffron party and joined the Biju Janata Dal.

Baxipatra was welcomed into the ruling party in the presence of senior leaders, MP Manas Mangaraj, MP Sasmit Patra, Chandrasekhar Sahu, Bikram Panda, and others.

In his resignation letter to Manmohan Samal, BJP State President, Baxipatra mentioned that the party does not require him, for which he decided to part ways.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Bhrugu Baxipatra had contested from the Berhampur Constituency on a BJP ticket and had received more than three lakh votes. He is a grassroots-level leader and has a mass following in Ganjam District. It is worth mentioning that Baxipatra’s late father, Harish Chandra Baxipatra, was a former MLA.
