Cuttack: A Special Vigilance Court in Ganjam today convicted the Ex-Fee Supervisor (Retired) of Berhampur Municipality in a Disproportionate Assets (DA) case and sentenced him to 1 year of Rigorous Imprisonment (RI).
According to reports, Odisha Vigilance had charge sheeted Kumuda Chandra Pradhan, Ex-Fee Supervisor (Retired), Berhampur Municipality, in Berhampur Vigilance PS Case No.19 of 1996 U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(e) Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 for possession of disproportionate assets to his known sources of income,
Today, the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Berhampur convicted Pradhan and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 1 year and to pay fine of Rs.5,000.
In default of payment of fine, the convict shall undergo rigorous imprisonment for a further period of 1 month for the offence U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(e) Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, the court ruled.
Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for stoppage of pension of Pradhan following his conviction, the Vigilance Directorate informed in a press note.
Purna Chandra Mishra, Ex-Inspector, Vigilance Berhampur Division had investigated the case and Surendra Panda, Special Public Prosecutor, Vigilance Court, Berhampur conducted the case on behalf of the prosecution.
