The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) announced plans to redevelop the Priyadarshini Market Complex at CRPF Square, aiming to modernise one of the city’s busiest commercial hubs with upgraded infrastructure and amenities.
Housing and Urban Development Minister and BDA Chairman Krushna Chandra Mahapatra made the announcement after a site visit and interaction with shop owners. He said repeated repairs to the decades-old structure would not provide a sustainable solution. “Considering the building’s condition and future commercial needs, BDA has decided to redevelop the market complex with modern facilities,” Mahapatra stated.
Constructed in 1987, the complex spans 1.44 acres and houses 152 shops, 100 vending platforms, two restaurants, and five office spaces. BDA Vice-Chairman Chanchal Rana said the redevelopment plan was finalised after consultations with traders. He assured temporary relocation and compensation support during construction.
The project will include modern infrastructure, parking facilities, advanced fire safety systems, and improved public conveniences. Officials expect the redevelopment to create additional commercial units, strengthen Bhubaneswar’s commercial ecosystem, and generate higher revenue for BDA while offering citizens a better shopping experience.
