Ayushmann Khurrana described Yeh Prem Mol Liya as a film made for “Bharat, not India” while speaking at the launch of the film’s title track in Mumbai.
The song launch, held at the Royal Opera House, brought together Ayushmann, Sharvari, filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya and composer Himesh Reshammiya. Himesh also performed the newly released track live with a 25-piece orchestra.
Ayushmann Khurrana on the ‘Bharat’ connection
Ayushmann recalled hearing Sooraj Barjatya’s narration for the first time and admitted that the film’s unusual title initially made him curious.
He said he had questioned the title after seeing people discuss it online. However, his reaction changed after Barjatya played him the title track.
Praising Himesh’s ability to connect with audiences, Ayushmann said, “The remarkable thing is that Himesh understands emotions and the masses. Hardly any other contemporary composer understands the Indian public as well as he does.”
He added that the collaboration between Barjatya and Reshammiya convinced him that Yeh Prem Mol Liya was the right title for the film.
According to Ayushmann, the film is not simply an India-set story but one that is intended to connect with “Bharat” and reach audiences through its emotional and musical appeal.
Sharvari praises Himesh’s music
Sharvari, who stars opposite Ayushmann, also spoke about working with Himesh Reshammiya.
She said she had grown up listening to his music and found the experience of performing to one of his songs particularly special. Sharvari also said the lyrics helped her connect with her character.
The title track, sung by Shreya Ghoshal and Nihal Tauro, features Ayushmann and Sharvari against the backdrop of wedding celebrations and family gatherings.
The song brings back the familiar musical and family-oriented visual style associated with Rajshri films while introducing Ayushmann and Sharvari as a new on-screen pairing.
Himesh wants a seventh song
Himesh revealed that Yeh Prem Mol Liya currently has six songs.
However, the composer said he has been trying to persuade Barjatya to add another track to the film.
The film marks another collaboration between Barjatya and Himesh after their work together on Prem Ratan Dhan Payo.
Ayushmann steps into the Prem legacy
Yeh Prem Mol Liya brings back Rajshri’s popular Prem character to the big screen after a 12-year gap, with Ayushmann taking on the role this time.
Sharvari plays his leading lady in the film, which follows a relationship that begins with friendship and gradually develops into something deeper.
The story explores the contrast between contemporary ideas of romance and the traditional warmth of a joint family.
The ensemble cast includes Anupam Kher, Supriya Pathak, Seema Pahwa and Saumya Tandon.
