Preparations are complete as the spotlight turns toward Ekta Nagar in Kevadia, Gujarat, for the 72nd National Film Awards scheduled for September 22, 2026.
The President of India will confer the prestigious awards, recognising outstanding achievements in Indian cinema for the year 2024.

This edition marks a significant shift in tradition, as the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting moves the ceremony outside the national capital to showcase the country’s diverse cultural and regional landscapes. The initiative will see future editions organised in different parts of India.
Veteran actor Anant Nag will be honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2024, celebrating a career spanning over five decades in Kannada and Indian cinema.
In the competitive categories, Article 370 has been chosen as the Best Feature Film, with Yami Gautam winning Best Actress in a Leading Role for her performance in the film. The Best Actor in a Leading Role honour will be shared by Mammootty for Bramayugam and Kartik Aaryan for Chandu Champion.
Additionally, Randeep Hooda has been named Best Debut Director for Swatantrya Veer Savarkar, while Bhangaar and Ram-Nami earned top honours in the Non-Feature Film and Documentary categories, respectively.
Blockbusters such as Kalki 2898 AD, Amaran, Pushpa 2: The Rule, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, and Stree 2 will also be recognised across technical and artistic categories.
