Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that two more individuals have been arrested for allegedly “defending Pakistan on Indian soil”, raising the total number of arrests to 39 since the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu & Kashmir on April 22.
The latest arrests were made in Hojai and South Salmara-Mankachar districts, Sarma confirmed via a post on X (formerly Twitter) late Saturday night.
“#Update on Crackdown against traitors for defending Pakistan on Indian soil… A total of 39 Anti Nationals put behind bars till now,” the CM posted.
Among the earlier arrested individuals is AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam, booked on sedition charges for allegedly supporting Pakistan in connection to the Pahalgam massacre, which left 26 people dead, mostly tourists, and several others injured.
Sarma’s tough stance follows his controversial statement during a campaign rally, where he warned:
“I will break the legs of those who chant ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ on Indian soil.”
He also urged the public to pray for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Indian Army, declaring support for swift retribution against “Pakistani terrorists hiding anywhere in the world.”
