The airspace over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands has been closed for May 23 and 24 to facilitate an inter-island missile test, according to an official NOTAM issued for flight restrictions.
No aircraft will be permitted to operate over certain areas of the Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea as India proceeds with high-altitude weapon testing.
Sources within the defence establishment have confirmed that a similar test was successfully conducted earlier, marking routine military drills aimed at strengthening national security. The Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC), India’s only tri-services command, continues to play a pivotal role in strategic defence operations.
This latest missile test comes in the wake of Operation Sindoor, a military campaign launched earlier in May to target terror infrastructure beyond Indian borders. While tensions between India and Pakistan have reportedly de-escalated, security preparedness remains a top priority.
Observers are keenly watching these developments, as India continues to expand its defence capabilities with sophisticated missile technology. The government has previously asserted the effectiveness of indigenous defence systems, including the BrahMos supersonic missile, in bolstering national security.
