Raipur: A meeting on Naxalism, led by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, commenced in Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh on Saturday.
Attended by high-ranking officials from seven states, the meeting aims to assess inter-state coordination and the Left Wing Extremism scenario, according to an official statement.
Participants include Chhattisgarh’s Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, Deputy CM Vijay Sharma, Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai, and the Chief Secretaries and Directors General of Police (DGPs) from Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Maharashtra.
“Central government senior officials are also present. These seven states are known for their Naxalite presence, especially along inter-state borders. Subsequently, Shah is set to lead a session on security and development in regions of Chhattisgarh affected by Left Wing Extremism. He is scheduled for a press conference at 6 pm,” the official reported.
Since the BJP’s victory in the previous year’s assembly elections, anti-Naxalite operations have escalated in Chhattisgarh, with security forces having eliminated as many as 142 Naxalites this year.
Amit Shah, during the recent Lok Sabha elections, declared that Naxalism would be eradicated from Chhattisgarh within three years if Prime Minister Narendra Modi secures a third term.
