Mumbai: Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar has tested positive for COVID-19, sources close to the actor revealed on Friday. The diagnosis came in the morning, forcing Kumar to isolate and miss the final promotional events for his latest film, ‘Sarfira,’ which released in theatres today.
Kumar had been travelling to promote ‘Sarfira’ when he began feeling unwell two days ago. After testing positive, he immediately isolated himself and is following all medical advice. Despite the actor’s absence, the film’s release proceeded as scheduled.
‘Sarfira,’ directed by Sudha Kongara, is an official adaptation of the 2020 Tamil movie ‘Soorarai Pottru.’ The film also stars Paresh Rawal and Radhika Madan in key roles, with a special cameo by Suriya.
Meanwhile, the high-profile wedding celebrations of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant are underway. The four-day event, which began on July 12 with the ‘Shubh Vivaah’ ceremony, is expected to draw a star-studded guest list including international celebrities like John Cena, Mike Tyson, and Jean-Claude Van Damme, as well as political figures such as Boris Johnson and Tony Blair.
However, Akshay Kumar will not be attending Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s wedding today because he has tested positive for COVID-19.
This marks Akshay Kumar’s third bout with COVID-19. He previously contracted the virus in April 2021, which led to hospitalisation, and again in May 2022.
