Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader and Member of Parliament Abhishek Banerjee is facing increasing political and legal challenges as multiple investigations continue alongside a growing crisis within his party.
On Monday, Banerjee was questioned for nearly 11 hours by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Kolkata in connection with the alleged teacher recruitment scam. The lengthy interrogation came at a time when the TMC is grappling with internal turmoil after several MPs reportedly rebelled against the party leadership.
Speaker’s Office Seeks Banerjee’s Response
During the ED questioning, Banerjee reportedly received communication from the office of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla regarding developments related to the political situation involving rebel TMC MPs.
According to reports, the Speaker’s office sought Banerjee’s response as part of the process of hearing all sides before taking a decision on requests made by a group of MPs regarding their political future.
Sources said Banerjee was unable to attend due to the ongoing ED proceedings in Kolkata. Party representatives later informed the Speaker’s office that he was willing to cooperate and requested additional time.
TMC Faces Internal Challenges
The Trinamool Congress is currently navigating one of its most significant political challenges in recent years. Reports suggest that a large group of party MPs has expressed support for a separate political formation, creating uncertainty about the party’s strength in Parliament.
The development has sparked intense political discussions both within West Bengal and at the national level.
Multiple Investigations Continue
Banerjee’s legal and political schedule has remained busy over the past several days.
On Sunday, he was questioned by the West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for more than eight hours in connection with a case related to alleged forged signatures on documents submitted to the West Bengal Assembly.
A day later, the ED conducted another round of questioning linked to the alleged teacher recruitment scam.
Speaking to reporters after the interrogation, Banerjee said he would continue to cooperate with investigating agencies whenever required.
CID Summons Again
On Tuesday, Banerjee appeared before the CID once again regarding allegations connected to statements made during the West Bengal Assembly election campaign.
The case stems from a complaint alleging that certain remarks made during public meetings could have affected public order. Investigators are examining the matter as part of their ongoing inquiry.
Political Spotlight Remains on TMC
As investigations continue, attention remains focused on both Banerjee’s legal challenges and the evolving situation within the Trinamool Congress.
Political observers believe the coming weeks could prove crucial for the party as it attempts to manage internal differences while addressing ongoing investigations involving some of its senior leaders.
With parliamentary developments, probe agency actions, and state-level political shifts unfolding simultaneously, the situation continues to attract significant national attention.
