The carcass of a male elephant was discovered in the Raipuria Reserve Forest under the Jarada Range of Bonai Forest Division in Odisha’s Sundaragada district.
According to reports, residents who ventured into the forest on Sunday detected a strong foul odour and subsequently spotted the dead tusker in the Kel Kunja beat under the Majuri Dima section. They immediately alerted the forest department regarding the carcass.
Upon receiving the information, the Jarada Range Officer, along with forest personnel, reached the site on Sunday afternoon. Following a preliminary assessment, senior officials including the Divisional Forest Officer, Assistant Conservator of Forests, and local foresters commenced a detailed inquiry.
Forest officials stated that an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of death, and further details will emerge following the post-mortem examination scheduled for Monday.
