A tragic incident unfolded in Girla village under Dabugaon police limits in Nabarangpur district on Friday when a 19-year-old youth lost his life due to drowning in a local pond.
The deceased has been identified as Rama Chandra Bhatra (19), a resident of Girla village. According to sources, Rama Chandra went to the nearby village pond around 8 AM to bathe/wash. While at the pond, he accidentally slipped into deep water and drowned.
When he did not return, family members and locals searched for him, eventually finding his body floating in the water and alerting the Dabugaon Fire Services.
Upon receiving the information, fire personnel arrived and recovered the body from the pond and handed it to the police before the victim’s father filed a complaint.
Based on the complaint, Dabugaon Police registered an Unnatural Death (UD) Case (No. 31/2026) and initiated an inquiry. The body was then handed over to the family following the post-mortem examination.
