The body of an elderly man was recovered from a Canal in Nuagaon in Nayagada district on Friday.
The news quickly spread across the area after locals heading toward the canal spotted the deceased lying in the water.
Upon hearing the news, Shiv Shankar Singh from Kandar Kela village rushed to the spot and identified the deceased as his 66-year-old elder brother, Chhatak Singh.
According to the complaint, around 7:30 AM, Chhataka, who was mentally unstable, went to sleep after dinner on Thursday night. However, early the following morning, his body was spotted under the Canal bridge.
Following the report, SI B.K. Dash registered an Unnatural Death (UD) Case (No. 20/2026) and reached the spot to begin an investigation. Police recovered the body, sent it for a post-mortem examination, and later handed it over to the family members.
