Nuapada by-election nominations

As the countdown intensifies for the Nuapada Assembly bye-election scheduled for November 11, five candidates have already filed a total of seven nomination papers by the close of nominations on Saturday, October 18.

This early surge signals a competitive race in the constituency. Representatives from major parties and independents are vying for the seat vacated following the resignation of the previous incumbent.

The by-election, announced by the Election Commission of India (ECI), comes amid heightened political activity in Odisha’s Nuapada district. Leading the filings was independent candidate Ashraya Mahanand, who submitted his papers earlier in the day. Joining him today were four additional contenders. Each brings their political affiliations to the fray:

  • Shukadev Dandasena of the Odisha Janata Dal, filing one nomination paper.
  • Purushottam Behera, contesting as an independent, with one nomination.
  • Ghasiram Majhi from the Indian National Congress (INC) submitted two nomination papers.
  • Jay Dholakia, representing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), also with two nominations.

According to the ECI’s official notification, aspiring candidates have until Monday, October 20, to submit their nomination papers. Scrutiny of these documents will follow on Wednesday, October 22, providing an opportunity for any discrepancies to be addressed. The last date for withdrawal of candidatures is set for Friday, October 24, after which the final list of contestants will be confirmed.

Polling is slated for November 11, with the entire election process, including vote counting and result declaration, expected to conclude by Sunday, November 16. Voter turnout and security arrangements are anticipated to be focal points, given the constituency’s rural demographics and history of peaceful elections.

Political Dynamics

Political analysts predict a close battle. The by-election serves as a litmus test for Odisha’s shifting alliances ahead of future state polls. Campaigns are expected to ramp up in the coming days. They focus on local issues such as agriculture, infrastructure, and tribal welfare in Nuapada.

The ECI has urged all stakeholders to adhere strictly to the Model Code of Conduct. This ensures a free and fair electoral process. Updates on candidate lists and campaign schedules will be available on the commission’s official portal.

Ghasiram Majhi Files Nomination for Nuapada By-Poll Amid Grand Congress Rally

In a powerful display of political momentum, Congress candidate Ghasiram Majhi filed his nomination papers for the upcoming Nuapada Assembly by-election on Saturday. He was accompanied by a massive rally that underscored the party’s renewed push in western Odisha.

Thousands of supporters marched alongside Majhi from his residence in Telipada Ramnagar to the Sub-Collector’s office. This transformed the nomination filing into a public spectacle of solidarity.

Leading the procession was Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President Bhakta Das, joined by senior party leaders and grassroots workers, signalling high-level backing for Majhi’s candidacy.

Addressing the media after submitting his papers, Majhi positioned himself as a local champion. He stated, “The people of Nuapada will stand with a son of the soil, not an outsider.” Majhi expressed confidence in securing victory. He pledged to prioritise the region’s development if elected.

Jay Dholakia Files Nomination Amid Massive BJP Show of Strength

In a politically charged atmosphere, BJP’s Jay Dholakia, son of late MLA and former minister Rajendra Dholakia, officially filed his nomination for the upcoming Nuapada by-election.

Jay Dholakia began his journey from his residence on Khariar Road, accompanied by his mother, Kalpana Dholakia. A massive procession of vehicles and supporters followed. The rally culminated at the Nuapada District Collector’s office. There, he submitted his nomination papers in the presence of BJP State President Manmohan Samal and other senior leaders.

Speaking to the media, Jay Dholakia expressed his commitment to fulfilling his late father’s dream. He aims to transform Nuapada into Odisha’s leading district. “Inspired by the developmental vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, I pledge to work tirelessly for Nuapada’s progress in agriculture, fisheries, tourism, education, and infrastructure,” he said.

State President Manmohan Samal echoed the sentiment. He declared Jay’s victory “certain” and called the day’s rally a “historic moment” for the region. He emphasised the BJP’s resolve to uplift Nuapada from a backward district to a model of development.
