A major disaster was avoided on Friday when postal staff quickly controlled a fire in the Kantabanji Post Office strongroom before significant damage occurred.
Upon noticing the fire, Postmaster Bikram Singh Dandasena, along with staff member Nabin Boye and others, immediately raised the alarm. Without delay, they utilised the office’s fire extinguishers to douse the initial flames and prevent them from spreading.
Upon being alerted, a team from the Kantabanji Fire Services rushed to the spot. Fire personnel inspected the site and confirmed that the blaze originated from an electrical short-circuit in the strongroom’s distribution board.
Officials praised postal staff Rajkumar Meher and Sarat Seth for their quick action and vigilance, which contained the fire before it worsened.
