DMK Mouthpiece Targets CM Vijay Over Trisha’s I-Day Event Appearance: ‘Could Not Be Tolerated’

The DMK’s mouthpiece Murasoli has criticised Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay over actress Trisha Krishnan’s presence at the Independence Day celebrations in Chennai.

The newspaper, founded by former Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi, questioned why Trisha was seated in the front row at the August 15 event at Fort St George and highlighted her exchange of salutes with Vijay.

The article described the interaction as inappropriate and said it would not be acceptable to people who voted for Vijay.

What did Murasoli say about Trisha and Vijay?

Murasoli questioned whether Trisha’s presence and her interaction with the chief minister were appropriate at an official Independence Day function.

The newspaper said the sight of the actress sitting in the front row and exchanging salutes with Vijay had upset sections of the electorate. It also suggested that only Vijay’s supporters would approve of an actress being given such prominence at the state’s official celebrations.

Trisha’s presence has attracted attention because of her increasingly visible appearances at Vijay’s political events. She also attended his swearing-in ceremony in May.

Trisha-Vijay friendship under scrutiny

Vijay and Trisha have been the subject of public speculation over their friendship, particularly amid reports concerning Vijay’s personal life.

According to the report, Vijay’s wife Sangeetha had filed for divorce in February, citing allegations including mental cruelty, emotional neglect, desertion and adultery. The petition was subsequently withdrawn earlier this month.

DMK newspaper questions Vijay’s first months as CM

Murasoli also used the Independence Day event to criticise Vijay’s performance during his initial months as chief minister.

The newspaper questioned Vijay’s appeal to people to continue supporting his government and suggested that his remarks reflected concerns over his political standing.

It also raised questions over appointments involving individuals associated with Vijay’s film career and criticised the government over its handling of several controversies.

The newspaper referred to people associated with films such as Jananayagan, Bigil and Leo while questioning whether Vijay’s administration had given sufficient attention to concerns surrounding such appointments.

Questions raised over ministers and MLAs

The DMK mouthpiece also questioned Vijay’s handling of complaints involving members of his government and party.

It referred to allegations involving a party supporter and a minister, as well as claims that the government had acted against critics on social media.

The article further alleged that courts had criticised aspects of the administration.

‘People are not fools’

Murasoli concluded its criticism by arguing that Vijay’s appeal for continued public support would not necessarily prevent growing dissatisfaction.

The newspaper cited social media posts expressing regret over voting for Vijay and argued that people would judge his government’s performance independently.

The article also returned to Trisha’s presence at the Independence Day function, reiterating its criticism of her front-row seating and the exchange of salutes with the chief minister.
